Believe your child! If they are struggling, you’ll see it in behavior or hear it in their communication. Take it seriously.
Get healthy yourself! You will be in a powerful position to help your child if you are feeling grounded and whole. Prioritize your sanity and lead by example! This includes lifestyle choices, mental health practices and seeking support for yourself as needed.
Find a simple connection routine that works for your life. With kids, connected is protected. I have resources I would recommend and I will also give some simple instructions below (acknowledge connection codes)
Educate the entire family about mental health practices for daily life. This would include daily and weekly activities to remain in balance and avoid or minimize unhelpful habits.
Educate the members of the family about crisis management. Learn coregulation skills and apply them as often as needed. You will find these skills benefit every member of the family to some degree.
Find professional help for your kids as needed! Take steps to identify and interview the right provider. Stay involved and maximize the benefits available through your provider.
Periodically check in to monitor how your child feels about their progress. Decide how you will evaluate the growth, and how often. Make changes as needed.
Keep your focus on the long game! Unless your child is experiencing a dangerous or life threatening level of unhealth, it is best to be patient and stay calm. Being anxious about your child’s anxiety is counterproductive! Infusing your home with peace, journaling, praying, and practicing other regulating behaviors, and most of all, envisioning the future relationship and full life you want for your child in 10 or even 20 or 30 years. Shrink the paralyzing power of the current fear by seeing the big vision of a hopeful future. Bring things into a more balanced perspective.

By following these essential steps, you can uncover the secrets to supporting your child who suffers with anxiety. You are exactly the right parent for your child! For additional parental support, book a session with me today.
